Creative & Expressive Arts

At Manor Green College we place huge value on the expressive and creative arts, both in school and outside school. We have created a school culture that values, understands and accepts everyone’s differences, and we encourage our pupils to take pride in their own individuality, and to expressive themselves to the best of their abilities.

The pedagogy inherent in the creative, cultural and expressive arts best develops the holistic and non-linear teaching of:

    • Expressive skills – verbal, auditory, physical and visual
    • Sensory learning and communication
    • Cultural understanding and appreciation
    • Emotional literacy
    • Self-awareness and self-knowledge
    • Self-belief and self-esteem

The value we place on pupil voice within the Creative Arts encourages learners to take ownership of their work and to seek and enjoy challenge.

We have Arts Leaders at the college, a role that students have to apply for and which they occupy for two years. This offers students extra-curricular enrichment, priority access to cross-school collaborations and promotes leadership and mentoring skills. We are very proud of our Arts Leaders!

Arts & Cultural Entitlement

Across all of the Creative subjects, we embed hands-on learning across the timetable and provide a breadth of opportunities and experiences for students during their time at Manor Green College. All our teachers are creative professionals, skilled at delivering engaging and accessible learning. This is richly supplemented by specialist teachers who offer discrete timetabled lessons, special projects or accreditation in the following areas:

Vanessa
Kevin
Mark
Lucy
Music
Adam & Clare

Above all else, we believe that the transformative power of the arts is in the connection and collective engagement it promotes, whether in the classroom or off-site in the community. We use a mixture of sketchbooks, digital media and e-portfolios to capture and share learning.

 Showcase & Celebration Events

We are proud to offer a range of opportunities over the course of each year for our creative students to engage with live audiences at events with our community. These include:

Additionally, we take part in high-profile national events such as The Big Draw, World Book Day and the Oska Bright Film Festival, and we work with a range of inspirational arts and cultural partners including Same Sky, Carousel, So Sussex, Stop Gap Dance and West Sussex Music.

Our Trophy Cabinet

We are incredibly proud to be nationally accredited with the rare Platinum Artsmark by Arts Council England, in recognition of all that we do. We are also an exemplar Arts Award awarding centre, with Trinity College.

We use the Eduqas awarding body for our Arts GCSEs.
